Need-to-update-computer-itis

For years, my wife has been telling me I have it. I've always denied it or laughed it off, "what does she know? I just like computers." Well, I gracefully admit it now. Not in a funny sort of way, but very seriously.

I'm not the type of person that has to go out and get the latest and greatest of everything. I would consider that compulsive or "show-offy." Me, I'm the type of person that would rather get a new piece of equipment I want rather than a new pair of shoes I need. That isn't good. Not good at all.

My realization of this happened over the past two days. I had a little bit of money available. As a "gift" to myself, I decided to pick up a new processor for my PC, $100 bucks. No biggie. Well, after flashing the BIOS, I found that the new processor (XP 2500+) still didn't get recognized. What do I do? Instead of taking the processor back, I say to myself, "self, just get a new motherboard." In all, I ended up spending $200 bucks for a want. That sad thing is, I would have easily justified NOT buying new shoes because it would have been a waste.

For me to say that I will never buy PC (performance) related items anymore is a lie. But from now on, I will truly evaluate every dollar I spend towards them.
