Life with a newborn

Today has officially marked Devon's first week of life. So, what has transpired in this wee bit of time?

1) Helping the kids to adjust to their new sibling. Letting them to take an active roll in Devon's life has really helped them to adapt.

2) Getting use to the smell of poopy diapers. We have a Diaper Genie, but haven't started using it yet. Not sure why.

3) Teaching the dog that baby != toy. Teaching the dog that when baby whines, we hear him too, no need to start whining yourself.

4) Most importantly, life is precious and these days go by quick. Really take the time to appreciate the "baby days."

2 ramblings so far

1. Happy 1-week birthday Devon!

1. You have two other kids? How old are they?

2. Have you tried Febreze or Oust? If it works for simple dog odors like unbathed fur, it should work for poo. ;)

3. One of the things I'm afraid of ours doing when we have a kid. But mostly that the female will be so protective we won't be able to get near the kid, which is pretty much what happens with my friend Renee's Rott and 3 month old!

4. Amen.

2. Yep, I have a daughter (6) and a son (4). I'll keep the Febreze in mind ;-)

I wouldn't worry about the female dog being too protective. She'll know her place. Just becareful for guests wanting to pick a baby up. Then she may get agressive.
