TBS interview with Baton Bob

CNN has a video clip from an interview of Bob Jamerson, aka, Baton Bob.

It's listed as "Humor: Meet Baton Bob". The clip comes from a series done for TBS Storyline, I'm assuming dated this week.

I'm an 80's kid, and I love it!

I'm at a sweet spot in my life. I grew up during a time when "Saturday morning cartoons" actually meant getting up at 7am and watching 3 networks full of real, childhood entertainment. It didn't end until 11:30am (CST) when that stupid cat's storybook time tried to teach me a life lesson.

But, in between 7 and the stupid cat, I was privilaged enough to say my memories included: Transformers, GoBots, Thundercats, Silverhawks, Heathcliff, Jem (and what of it!)....I could go on and on, but you get the point. All those cartoons had a following.

Well, it's 20 some-odd years later, and the entertainment industry is fully monopolizing on it (well, maybe not the Jem part). I just found out yesterday that they're coming out with a live action Transformers movie!!!

So, why am I in a sweet spot in life? Because I have the fondest of memories of what it's like to be entertained by real cartoons - then go outside and let my imagination do the rest, growing up at a time when electronic games are just as acceptable for kids and adults (which keeps you young and reminded of the cartoons you grew up on), and movies are coming out that let me see what my imagination came up with.

I feel so sorry for today's youths. Movies of today are filling in my childhood dream's gaps...and are robbing you all of yours.

The Texas Tech Bellringer

I would't typically make a post about an email I get, but the included attachment can only be prefaced with the appropriate text...

Imagine this... You just came to Texas Tech University as a freshman... You
get the opportunity to make it big time as the football teams "BELL RINGER"
during their games... Your whole family, all of your friends, and about
10-15 million ESPN viewers will see you on a Saturday telecast ringing the
teams bell....

But to your whole family, all of your friends, and about 10-15 million ESPN
viewers you DO NOT appear to be ringing the teams bell...

You can view the video here (Bellringer Video)

Reminder notes

An 80 year old couple were having problems remembering things, so they decided to go to their doctor to get checked out to make sure nothing was wrong with them.

When they arrived at the doctor's, they explained to the doctor about the problems they were having with their memory. After checking the couple out, the doctor tells them that they were physically okay but might want to start writing things down and make notes to help them remember things.

The couple thanked the doctor and left. Later that night while watching TV, the old man got up from his chair and his wife asks, "Where are you going?"

He replies, "To the kitchen."She asks, "Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?"

He replies, "Sure." She then asks him, "Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?"

He says, "No, I can remember that." She then says, "Well I also would like some strawberries on top. You had better write that down cause I know you'll forget that."

He says, "I can remember that, you want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries." She replies, "Well I also would like whip cream on top. I know you will forget that so you better write it down."

With irritation in his voice, he says, "I don't need to write that down I can remember that." He then fumes into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes he returns from the kitchen and hands her a plate of bacon and eggs. She stares at the plate for a moment and says, "You forgot my toast."

How much for the reel?

A woman goes into Wal-Mart to buy a rod and reel for her grandson's birthday. She doesn't know which one to get so she just grabs one and goes over to the counter. A Wal-Mart associate is standing there wearing dark shades. She says, "Excuse me, sir Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?

He says, "Ma'am, I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the counter, I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound it makes". She doesn't believe him but drops it on the counter anyway. He says, "That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod with a Zebco 404 reel and 10-lb test line. It's a good all around combination; and it's on sale this week for only $20.00."

She says, "It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I'll take it!"

As she opens her purse, her credit card drops on the floor. "Oh, that sounds like a Visa card," he says. She bends down to pick it up and accidentally lets out a thundering fart. At first she is really embarrassed, but then realizes there is no way the blind clerk could tell it was she who farted. Being blind, he wouldn't know that she was only person around.

The man rings up the sale and says, "That'll be $34.50 please."

The woman is totally confused by this and asks, "Didn't you tell me it was on sale for $20.00? How did you get $34.50?"

He replies, "Yes, Ma'am. The rod and reel is $20.00, but the Duck Call is $11.00 and the Catfish Bait is $3.50.

So Where Did You Hide the Money?

A Mafia godfather finds out that his bookkeeper has stolen ten million bucks from him. The bookkeeper is deaf. (It was one of the reasons he got the job in the first place, as it was assumed that since he couldn't hear what "the boys" were saying, he'd never have to testify in court.) The godfather goes to shake down the bookkeeper about his missing 10 million bucks and brings along his attorney who knows sign language.

The godfather asks the bookkeeper, "Where is the 10 million bucks you embezzled from me?"

The attorney, using sign language, asks the bookkeeper where the 10 million is hidden.

The bookkeeper signs back, "I don't know what you're talking about."

The attorney tells the godfather, "He says he doesn't know what you're talking about."

The godfather pulls out a 9 mm pistol, puts it to the bookkeeper's temple, cocks it, and says, "Ask him again!"

The attorney signs to the underling, "He'll kill you for sure if you don't tell him!"

The bookkeeper signs back, "OK! You win! The money is in a brown briefcase, buried behind the shed in my cousin Enzo's backyard in Queens!"

The godfather turns to the attorney, "Well, what'd he say?"

"He says you don't have the guts to pull that trigger!"

The Common Space is a local civics and cultural center here in St. Louis. While I've never made it down there, I check in on their site pretty frequently to see what's new there.

One activity of interest they frequently have is Breakin' @ The Commonspace. The original location of the file is on Brian's blog, but it looks like it's a space hog...so I wanted to mirror it here to make sure something like this isn't lost. Enjoy!

Friggin' USB cable...or lack there of

Over the last several months, the job I work for has been preparing to move into another building. After 15 years of being in the location they are now, you can believe they have a considerable amount of "junk" that serves absolutely no purpose.

Well, in preparing for the move, it was junk toss day. Now, considering I work for an IT company, I took the opportunity to think of one man's junk as another man's treasure. And a treasure I found indeed. It's an old 4U server. The hard drives are a 4.3 gig IBM and another 10 gig Western Digital. Slow drives, but who cares. I think 128 Megs of moldy, oldy EDO RAM, and a 233 MMX Pentium processor. And that's the noteworthy part.

The whole processor, RAM, and EIDE connectors are all on this daughter card. There are four other PCI slots for video and 2 NIC's I threw in..."treasure" of course. But, since I can't find the friggin' USB cable to my camera, I'm stuck to having to describe it in loose detail here. I hope you all have a vivid imagination!

Todd paid me a visit!

I know my site isn't much different from any other one you can find on the web. But every so often, people drop by for a look and sometimes offer some feedback. While I normally wouldn't post emails to me made from my contact page since comments can be made for each post, I couldn't resist sharing the oxymoronic tone this one.

Edited for language:

Subject: issues

Body: "you got em. you don't want to type www and your a cheap f**k. for real, does your p***y hurt or what, this site is gh to the izay. chill out on the waitresses man, unless you think you could handle that job. classic example of why this country is going to s**t, all the ignorant f**ks who live here."

Hotlinking Humor

OK, typically I would never make an entry about someone elses site, but this is worth it.

Seems that Sharon has been having issues with bandwidth stealers lately by people hotlinking images from her server...(hotlinking is someone from one site directly linking to a file server from another site, thus using the other site's bandwidth. Considered extremely rude) Well she took it upon herself to switch the images around as a price to pay for the theft.

Well, one site took the cake for me with this swich-a-roo! They more than deserve it, considering that every image on there is stealing bandwidth.

In Passing...

I remember visiting In Passing some time ago. Never really tripped on going back there until I started to hear some of the inner office chatter around the job. Funny thing is, this all came from the same person that passed by us walking to and coming from their smoke break.

To:
"Yeah, I still haven't picked up my sex toy..."

Fro:
"...I've kicked him in the shin before..."

Who knows, maybe it was just the atmosphere that the conversation was over heard. Maybe it was the curious look we each gave to each other after hearing it. Either way, some things really don't need to be heard out of context in plain view of others.

I love Jonny and Sally!

Every so often, a website is can make you laugh. Even more rare is a site that makes your side hurt from laughing. Well Jonny and Sally's site, Black People Love Us, falls squarely in the middle of the two. While the satire of it is plainly obvious, seeing people's comments almost takes the fun away from it. Still a great laugh when you've been on the "assumed" end of questions and comments.
