Green light horn honkers
I've experienced this three times in my life, twice being this week. People who are second in line at a stop light, that lay on their horn the nanosecond the light turns green.
Until this morning I thought that it may have been a fluke. You know, like readjusting your hands or arm and you happen to hit the horn. No. Each time I've seen this, it has happened at the exact same moment of signal change. And the culprit always seems to be of the demographic: old white folks.
Now, I'm not sure if there is some mechanism that kicks in around 60 that would cause old white folks' reaction time to approach that of a ninja's, but whatever it is, everyone that falls victim to it is left bewildered. Almost like their own sense of time and reality has become shaken and questionable. I know this, because it has happend to me.
The first time I've seen old ninja-esque white folks honking at green lights was when I was 17. Naturally, I was stunned. And being immature, I got behind him and followed him blaring my horn. Yeah, I was jerk, and it hasn't been my only time since then.
I guess it's just suprising that all this time, I never thought more of it until this week when I noticed a pattern. Guess that means it's a conspiracy! That, or a few impatient, older people...who just happened to be white...with identical, split-second reaction time. Hmmmmmmmm

Finally, high-speed Net access
Might seem like a little thing, but being able to connect faster than dial-up really does make being out of town a little more enjoyable.
Unfortunatly, my happiness is limited by my staying in Aurora, IL. Apparently, there was an earthquake around 1am last night. Not a biggie, but hopefully there won't be a repeat of rattling while I'm up here.

The not so Super 8
So here I am, sitting in the bowels of Illinois, not able to get to sleep and staying in a Super 8 motel. Now don't get me wrong, this place is by no means a dump. But, after my extensive stays at Holiday Inn Express', my standards have raised a bit above non-mind enhancing temparary abodes.
There are, though, certain standards one comes to expect from "pay as you stay" rooming services. One being a clock. Yes, a little digital clock with the skin crawling "SKREEK SKREEK SKREEK" wake-up buzzer to rouse you to your feet. I'll save my thoughts on display color preference since that's really petty.
But, something that isn't petty are pens. None here. What if I want to write? What if I just want a souvenir? One might think that this may be petty too, but why would Super 8 tease the creative nature in me by decorating the room with a desk?
I guess this can't be all that bad. I at least have full cable access and a clean room. They also provide breakfast "from 6am until gone." I'd better set the alarm to make sure I get down there early enough to eat.
Oh, wait...

13 hour workday
Today was another long one. Constantly on my feet, running in between court rooms, running wire, setting up server racks, making Cat5 patch cables, and climbing ladders. But, in the end it was satisfying to look back on a productive day.
One thing that isn't productive is this dial-up connection that runs at a blistering 26.4k. So, checking my email, which today was full of "More Ghetto Prom Pictures" along with the daily load of spam took about 5 minutes to get.
...20 minutes later in writing this...
Alright, I'm falling asleep now. I'm going to end this now.

Bored and alone
I've been neglecting this thing lately. Guess I've really haven't had much to say. Still don't now, but I can at least I'm out of town...again.
Sitting here in Joliet, Illinois. Woo hoo. Actually, this place is pretty nice. I'm like 40 miles outside of Chicago. Nice mix of people here and the food is good. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention the unusually high crime rate here. Not that I'm staring at statistics, but considering how many sirens I hear on a regular basis, this place certainly doesn't feel like home-sweet-home.
Man I'm ready to get back.

Might as well wardive
This past week, St. Louis played host to the World Agricultural Forum 2003 World Congress. Uh yeah, saying that title seems just about as long as the 8 hours it lasted.
How do I know it lasted 8 hours? Simple. I'm sitting at the video production company that captured event. Why am I here? Simple again. I have the task of recording the audio from the forum onto my laptop so it can be transcribed by someone else
...all eight hours of it.
How do I cope? Fortunatly, they have a wireless LAN, no WEP and a pretty fast connection. I'm set!

Life on the road
Or something like that. Back in Pekin, Illinois to work an install. Not so bad this time since I have my laptop with me!!! Starting to get use to being on the road too. Not that I like it, but learning to get use to it. I really need to bring my digital camera with me. If I would have, there definately would have been a shot of the drunk that was feeling up my co-workers this evening at the local bar...but that's another story.
OK, I really don't have much to write this evening. Guess I'll get back to watching Trigger Happy Television on Comedy Central.
